GULF OF MUKHOR (MUKHUR)
The Gulf of Mukhur (in Buryat means "impasse", "end", "edge") is a shallow, and rather warm gulf; extending about 8 kms. The Small Sea comes to an end by impasse here, whereas it is open to Baikal on the opposite side. The river valley, running into the gulf, is covered with rich meadow vegetation. The mouth of this river is named Shara - Togot, which means "crowfoot" or "beautiful blessed place", because the shallow gulf becomes covered by ice before others. It is very popular for ice fishermen.
